What is MPA Safety?

MPA Safety is a cloud-based workplace health and safety (WHS) management system designed to provide industry with a clear, quick, and compliant system to manage WHS in their businesses.

The complexity of managing health and safety obligations is an ongoing frustration for small businesses, especially in hazardous industries like plumbing, drainage and gas fitting where risks are more pronounced and there are greater safety obligations on employers. Complying with Australia’s strict WHS laws is a must – failing to do so could mean huge penalties and in extreme cases, jail.

To cut through this complexity, MPA is offering industry a simple system to manage their health and safety obligations, particularly in relation to the creation of Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), which can be created in less than five minutes through the MPA Safety platform.

Master Plumbers’ Association of Tasmania is not a consumer complaints authority or a government department.

We do not provide technical plumbing advice or onsite inspections or assessments.

Occupational Services (CBOS) implemented a CPD program for all licensed plumbers and gas-fitters under the Occupational Licensing Act 2005.

The Master Plumbers’ Association of Tasmania in partnership with the Government have developed CPD Toolbox – www.cpdtoolbox.com.au , an online resource open to all plumbers and gas-fitters in Tasmania, be they members or non-members of our Association.

CPD Toolbox is your one stop shop for managing your CPD requirements.  You can book in to CPD activities, mark online CPD activities as completed, upload additional external CPD activities and keep a running total of your CPD points.

The Master Plumbers Association of Tasmania Inc. (MPAT) is a registered organisation of employers under the Industrial Relations Act 1984 and an Incorporated Association under the Associations Incorporations Act 1964.

The Association is governed by its Board as elected under its Constitution.

The Board is responsible for the application of the Constitution and its Objects, those being:

• act as the peak industry body for the promotion training and advocacy of contractors in the plumbing industry;
• enable members to operate within the plumbing industry at the highest technical and ethical level;
• further the interests and protect the interests of its members;
• act as an organisation of contractors in respect to the plumbing industry under the laws of Australia or any of its States or territories;
• act as an organisation for employers in respect to contractors in the plumbing industry and in that regard initiate, defend or bring any industrial dispute or claim relating to industrial matters before the appropriate forum including the Fair Work Commission, boards, regulators and other appropriate courts, tribunals, committees and conferences;
• make agreements with members, employees and/or their representatives, organisations, associations or unions in respect to wages and conditions of employment;
• to provide all current information relevant to awards, conditions and other industrial matters relevant to Associations members in respect to their employees; and
• to consult, advise, lobby or enter into arrangements with government agencies, regulators, training authorities and providers for any of the objects or purposes of the Association.

The Association draws its membership from all plumbing trades including general plumbing, roof plumbing and gasfitting etc.

The Master Plumbers' Association of Tasmania (MPAT) has approved this Code of Conduct as a means of encouraging the highest standards of business conduct from its member organisations. It is issued so that the Association and its members may strive together to improve the Plumbing Industry and develop those personal and business attributes which are the basis of all good trading relations. In all matters relating to the interpretation of this Code a member shall recognise the authority of the Association and its Constitution.

A member shall protect the health and well-being of the community, as it is impacted by the sectors of the Plumbing Industry, to the best of the member’s ability.

• A member shall observe the highest standard of honesty in all transactions and shall avoid all use of false titles, ambiguous statements and misleading claims.
• A member shall endeavour to create friendly co-operation with fellow members and assist whenever possible. A member shall not, without reasonable cause, criticise another member's account or workmanship.
• A member shall not cancel a contract undertaken in good faith without good and sufficient cause and only then after having endeavoured to obtain the mutual consent of the parties concerned.
• A member shall carefully avoid the enticement of labour from another member especially by the offering of higher wages, bonuses, or better conditions.
• A member shall follow the best practices of the trade, to provide efficient service and to comply with all applicable provisions of the Trade Practices Act and any other applicable legislation whether State or Federal.
• A member shall endeavour to protect the public and the Plumbing Industry from unlicensed and unskilled persons.
• A member shall not knowingly sign any relevant documents as a licensed practitioner on behalf of an unlicensed person, to enable that person to carry out work in the Plumbing Industry.
• A member shall endeavour to employ and train apprentices where practicable.
• A member shall not knowingly pay or provide a secret commission, discount or rebate in order to gain advantage over another member.
• A member shall at all times work to preserve harmonious employer-employee relationships both within its own business and throughout the Plumbing Industry.
• A member shall engage, where practicable, in ongoing personal or professional skill development to maintain industry currency.
• A member shall not take action with a view to upsetting a contract entered into between a fellow member and his client.

Any dispute between members arising from this Code may be referred to the MPAT for settlement.

The Master Plumbers’ Association of Tasmania is the State’s peak plumbing contractor organisation representing some 150 small to large businesses.

The Association pro-actively seeks involvement in all areas affecting the Plumbing Industry to safeguard contractor interests, explore and develop commercial opportunities and protect the health and well- being of the Tasmanian community and our environment.

We promote and maintain the highest standards of plumbing through:

1. individual and industry competence;
2. ethics by education and support; and
3. training and information exchange and networking within Tasmania.

Our Members are bound by a Code of Contact, and our Association is governed by its Constitution and an elected Board of Management with the support of the Executive Officer.
