You don't have to carry it alone

Sometimes the warning signs can be easy to miss. You might notice that you, a mate or a workmate isn't quite themselves.

They may be:

  • Feeling overwhelmed, stressed or constantly under pressure
  • Struggling to sleep or switch off from work
  • Becoming withdrawn, frustrated or short-tempered
  • Losing interest in things they normally enjoy
  • Finding it difficult to concentrate or make decisions
  • Drinking more or relying on other unhealthy ways to cope
  • Feeling like things are getting too hard to manage

You don't need to wait until things reach crisis point to reach out.

A conversation over a coffee, a quick check-in at work or simply asking someone, “Are you okay?”, can make a real difference.

Building a healthier industry

Through Get the Pressure Down, Master Plumbers Tasmania will provide practical information, resources and opportunities to help our industry:

Raise awareness - Break down the stigma surrounding mental health and encourage more open conversations across our workplaces.

Recognise the signs - Help employers, workers and mates recognise when someone may be struggling and understand how to respond.

Start the conversation - Give people the confidence and tools to check in with colleagues, friends and family.

Connect people with support - Provide information about professional and community support services available when additional help is needed.

Create stronger workplaces - Encourage businesses to consider mental health and wellbeing as an important part of workplace health and safety.

Looking after your mates - Our industry has always been about looking after your mates.

Mental health is no different.

Take the time to check in. Listen without judgement. Don't be afraid to ask the question — and don't be afraid to answer honestly when someone asks you.

If you are struggling, asking for help is not a sign of weakness. It's a sign that you're taking action.

Get the pressure down. Start the conversation.

Master Plumbers Tasmania is proud to support a stronger, healthier and more connected industry.

Because looking after our people is just as important as getting the job done.

If you or someone you know needs support, please reach out to a qualified health professional or a recognised mental health support service. If someone is in immediate danger, call 000.

Keep an eye on this page for Get the Pressure Down resources, information, events and support for our industry.
